Schedule database backups

You can configure automatic database backups by creating a schedule. A schedule includes the following settings:

  • Start date
  • Time and time zone
  • Frequency (daily or weekly)

Scheduled backups are created automatically at the specified time and then deleted after the retention period ends. You can manage them in the same way as temporary and permanent backups.

To manage your schedules:

  1. Select a star system.
  2. From Apps, select Database Backups or select it from your pinned apps.
  3. Go to Schedules.

Create a schedule​

To configure automatic database backups, create a schedule:

  1. In the Database Backups app, select Create backup.

  2. Provide the following details:

    • Source planet

      A planet for which you want to create a database backup.

      Note that you can select only planets with either the InsuranceSuite status of Deployed or Upgraded. If the status of InsuranceSuite is Failed, Deploying, or Undeploying, you can't select this planet as a source planet for a backup.

      Under the selected planet, you can see its database size. This size is refreshed once every hour.

    • Backup mechanism

      Select a mechanism: pg_dump or snapshot.

      Note that you can restore a snapshot backup only to snapshot-enabled planets.

    • Backup name

      A unique name for a backup.

      Use at least one letter or number and a maximum of 98 characters.

      This field is obligatory.

    • Description (Optional)

      An optional description to help others identify the backup.

  3. Select a backup type: Scheduled.

  4. Define schedule details: Start date, Time, and Time zone.

    You can select time values in 15-minute increments. For example, 03.00 p.m, 03.15 p.m, 03.30 p.m, or 03.45 p.m.

  5. Define the schedule frequency: daily or weekly.

  6. (Optional) Review and update the value in Retention period in days.

    To configure a different default value in Retention period in days, contact Guidewire.

  7. Select Create.

Edit a schedule​

You can modify all the schedule settings except for the backup type.

Note:

You can't edit active schedules. A schedule becomes active on its start date.

To edit a backup schedule:

  1. In the Database Backups app, go to Schedules.
  2. Hover over a schedule and select Edit.

Delete a schedule​

To stop automatic backups, delete the schedule.

To delete a schedule:

  1. In the Database Backups app, go to Schedules.
  2. Hover over a schedule and select Delete.
