Manage planets

From the Planets app, you can create:

  • Dev, QA, and UAT planets in dev star systems.
  • PreProd planets in preprod star systems.

You can also delete planets, view planet details, and manage applications.

Important:

To create, edit, or delete planets, you must be a Guidewire Cloud customer using the Platform Edition (Platform Packaging and Pricing).

View planet details

Select a planet to check planet settings and view the list of applications and add-ons on a planet.

Planet settings

To view settings of a planet:

  1. Select a star system.

  2. From Apps , select Planets or select it from your pinned apps.

  3. Select a planet to check:

    • The orbit (class) of a planet.

      A planet orbit specifies the purpose of a planet. For details, see Check the planet class.

    • The list of applications and add-ons added on this planet.

      This list depends on star system provisioning.

Manage applications

Select a planet to perform the following activities:

Create a planet

Important:

Creating a planet reduces the Credit amount from your annual Credit subscription. For more information about the cost of planets, see Catalog of Non-Production Environments .

To create a planet:

  1. Select + Create planet.

    You can create:

    • Dev, QA, and UAT planets in dev star systems.
    • PreProd planets in preprod star systems.
  2. In Details, provide a planet name.

    Start a name with a letter. Use lower case letters and digits. The name must be 10 characters or less.

    You can't use the following terms:

    • prod
    • perf, also as part of the planet name
    • gw prefix
    • uplifted

    You can use prod and uplifted terms as a part of the planet name, for example futureprod.

  3. (Optional) From Add-ons, select Solr.

    Add-ons might be unavailable for a given star system.

  4. From Cost plan, select a planet type and orbit (planet class).

    Orbit (planet class) sets the purpose of the planet and default settings. For details, see Planet class..

    When you select an orbit, the Planets app populates selected fields with default values for that orbit. You can edit these values.

  5. Select Create.

Configure an InsuranceSuite app

When you create a planet, you are automatically taken to its detail view. You can also manually select the newly created planet from the planet list. To configure an InsuranceSuite app:

  1. Select a planet.

  2. Select InsuranceSuite.

  3. In Application settings, select Server mode.

    Server mode sets the value of the -Dgw.server.mode planet variable for all deployments within the planet.

    For applications on non-production planets, after you create a planet, you can edit the server mode. The change takes effect after a deployment. For applications on pre-production and production planets, you can't edit the server mode.

  4. Select Create.

Delete a planet

When you delete a planet, the associated secrets and variables are also removed.

Note:

You can't delete a planet with configured applications and add-ons, or during deployment.

Important:

To delete a planet with a dedicated RDS database, contact Guidewire.

To delete a planet that you no longer need:

  1. In the planet list, find the planet that you want to delete.

  2. Undeploy and delete applications and add-ons if needed.
